*World Health Organisation- NigeriaWHO hands over anti-TB drugs worth 1.7M dollars to Nigeria
In a ceremony held on August 7, 2009, Dr Peter Eriki, the WHO representative in Nigeria, formally handed over a consignment of anti-TB drugs to the Hon. Minister of Health, Prof Babatunde Osotimehin. The drugs, a donation to Nigeria from the Global Drug Facility (GDF) worth $ 1,75 million dollars, will cover the treatment of over 30,000 TB patients, including children.<<

Grassroots Health Organisation of Nigeria (GHON)was formed in Nigeria in 1993. GHON envisions a Nigeria where women and youth have access to health information and affordable services and living above poverty level. The Vision and Mission of GHON is to empower women and Youth in Nigeria with education, accurate information and services on their reproductive health and rights, and also to provide micro credit to women for access to economic opportunities and poverty alleviation. GHON’s goal and objectives include, assisting the Community through grassroots participation and mobilization to uplift the Reproductive Health and Socio-economic status of the community, assisting the grassroots community in their identified health needs and programmes, increasing the awareness on the prevention of Vesico Vaginal Fistula(VVF), STIs, HIV/AIDS, increased community awareness on maternal mortality and morbidity, adolescent reproductive health and rights including the prevention of VVF/STIs/HIV/AIDS/RVF. Others include the strengthening of the capacity of identified women associations, Youths and voluntary health workers at the grassroots level. GHON also encourages the collaboration of Policy Makers, non-governmental organizations(NGOs), health professionals, individuals and women groups to community oriented reproductive health programmes. It does this by sensitizing local philanthropists, resource groups, donor agencies and individuals on community reproductive health and poverty alleviation issues with a view to obtaining technical and financial resources for these targeted grassroots groups.
